Its been while since we've been woken by thunder, but early Tuesday morning some noisy storms rolled through the area. A couple of inches of rain sure make lawns, shrubs and flowers really come to life. We got about 3 inches of rain in a very short amount of time, and then enjoyed the fact that the sun was out by early morning. But that's Florida isn't it. Stormy one minute, sunny the next. Since you can't always count on when the next rain will come, why not make your landscape as drought tolerant as possible. Click here for a list of great drought tolerant plants. They'll make your landscape easy to care for this summer and beautiful too.

Sunshine Mimosa Mimosa strigillosa A drought-tolerant ground cover, that is native to Florida, which means it is used to our climate. It grows best in full sun, and in the summer it has cute little puffball flowers. But the coolest thing about sunshine mimosa is that its leaves fold up when you touch it, giving it the name 'sensitive plant'. |
