As kids, we loved swimming in the pool during the summer. There is no better way to cool off after a day of playing, working and more playing. But for us, swimming in the pool wasn't enough. One summer (I think it was a year when the Summer Olympics were held), we decided that we were going to try our hand at diving. We didn't have a diving board, but we had all taken gymnastics lessons, so we knew how to flip and twist a little bit. Pretty soon, we thought we had a full repertoire of dives and needed to show it off. So we set up a diving show, complete with handwritten programs. We made a rather large group of extended family sit on a Sunday afternoon as we announced each dive and showed off our skills. I'm not sure how much our audience enjoyed it, but I know we had fun! Fast-forward to today, and it is so much fun watching my little girls become fish. They love swimming in the pool with dad after I've had a hot day outside at the nursery. When Abby was really little, she would just chant "suit-on, suit-on" and I knew it was time for a dip in the pool. What I really love though, is that we enjoy spending time together in our backyard. It's our place to relax, unwind and have a little fun. Instead of being "the outside", it's really just a part of our home and one that we love spending time in. So don't spend the summer inside hiding in the air-conditioning. "Suit-on" as Abby would say. And remember a dip in the pool, or a cool drink under the shade of a tree is only refreshing if you've really worked for it.
